Whether you grew up on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or currently demand that your children give you every Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup out of their Halloween stash, there’s nothing not to love about the sweet and salty taste of peanut butter. It’s healthy, too! Peanut butter contains plenty of good fats, some fiber, and a decent amount of protein. It can also be fairly low-carb, although you should watch out because some brands do add sugar.
There is no shortage of low-carb peanut butter products on the market and I thought I would highlight some to check out on this commemorative day. Keep in mind that all of these products are low-carb, so they won’t impact your blood sugars all that much, if at all. Enjoy!
Atkins Peanut Butter Cups– These are a staple in my fridge since I prefer them cold. These Reese’s replacements contain the least amount of carbs out of all the products on this list, coming in at only 1 net gram of carbs per cup. The chocolate tastes rich and the peanut butter is creamy and you do not feel shorted in terms of flavor due to the lack of sugar. This is a big “something sweet” when you are on the hunt for sweet snacks but don’t want to greatly impact your blood sugars.
Legendary Peanut Butter– We first reviewed Legendary food products back in 2017 and it makes me so happy to see how they’ve grown. I often spot them in local retail and health stores – it’s great to know they are so widely available. Legendary creates ridiculously delicious flavored keto nut butters. They are truly of gourmet quality and can really level up your peanut butter game. My personal favorite was the chocolatey peanut butter cup flavor – most of the sweetness comes from the peanuts themselves, combined with a bit of erythritol. It’s got 4g of net carbs per serving. Be sure to also try their blueberry cinnamon bun, pecan pie almond, and chocolate banana nut butter spreads. Your taste buds will thank you!
As a peanut butter lover that takes her protein intake extremely seriously, PB2 is exactly what I’m looking for. If there’s one problem with peanut butter, it’s the high calorie count, a problem that PB2 takes care of. This is a powdered peanut butter product – they’ve removed about 90% of the fat! What do you do with powdered peanut butter? The most obvious thing is to mix it into smoothies or yogurt, but the business also has tons of great recipe and baking ideas too. They’ve recently added new flavors and varieties, too – vanilla, cocoa, cashew, almond – and a line that includes no added sugar or salt. I was skeptical at first, but powdered peanut butter definitely does not lack in flavor!
Enlightened Keto Peanut Butter Fudge is a refreshing dessert that has a perfect mixture of creamy peanut butter and decadent fudge. Low-carb ice cream just keeps getting better and better (and easier to find at the grocery store), and every new Enlightened flavor is a cause for celebration. One serving comes in at only 2g of net carbs, but make sure you exercise self-control as it’s easy to wallow in your troubles and down a pint in one sitting. (But even if you do, it’s only 7g grams for the entire pint!)
Catalina Crunch Keto Peanut Butter Cookie Sandwiches have been on my radar ever since I discovered their Keto Cinnamon Crunch Cereal, which is absolutely delicious. So it didn’t surprise me that these cookies tasted like the real deal. They are made mostly with pea protein, and the sweetener is a combo of allulose (our favorite alternative sweetener) and just a tiny bit of real cane sugar. These come in at only 5 grams net carbs for two cookies, so you can absolutely indulge! Oh, and they’re vegan too!
All of the products above are tasty, satisfying, and contain fewer carbs than most packaged snacks. They are all easy to find in your local grocery store and/or online. Celebrate National Peanut Butter Day by grabbing a package or two, and enjoy!
