Why We love It
Avocado Aioli is a quick and simple recipe that packs a ton of flavor in each bite! Make it today and it’s sure to go in your regular rotation. Why am I so sure?
- The delicious taste! Avocado Aioli has a rich and tangy flavor from the combination of creamy avocado, bright lime juice, and sharp garlic. It adds an incredible burst of fresh, zesty flavor to whatever you’re cooking up.
- It’s so easy to make! Simply blend a few household ingredients together and you’re done in under 5 minutes! And because this recipe uses mayonnaise instead of oil as a shortcut, the emulsification process is already done for you and the texture will be right every time.
- Many versatile uses! Avocado aioli is a wonderful and healthy dipping sauce for everything from fries to carrot sticks, or it can be used as a spread on sandwiches and burgers. You could serve it with roasted vegetables, seafood, tacos, salads, or with crusty bread, too. The possibilities are limitless!

Ingredients
Ingredients Notes:
- Don’t have lime? You can substitute lemon juice!
- Use ripe avocados for the creamiest aioli. When you gently squeeze the avocado in the palm of your hand, ripe avocados will yield slightly to gentle pressure, but aren’t be overly soft or mushy. Avoid avocados that feel extremely firm or hard.
- Optional: Add a teaspoon of fresh herbs, like cilantro or chives, to add extra flavor.
- Use a sugar-free mayo to make this recipe Whole30 compatible.
Step by Step Instructions

Step 2: Blend it up!
Use an immersion blender to blend the aioli until smooth, starting at a low speed. Season the aioli to taste.
If necessary, add a teaspoon at a time of lime juice or oil to lean and fit it, until it reaches a creamy, spreadable consistency.
Ways to Use Avocado Aioli
- Use it as a dipping sauce for sweet potato fries (pictured above), parsnip fries, quesadillas, carrot sticks, or onion rings.
- Spread on burger buns, inside wraps, or on toasted bread.
- Use in place of mayonnaise in your chicken salad or tuna salad recipes.
- Drizzle on top of roasted vegetables, grilled salmon, or chicken.
- Make a sauce to serve with noodles by thinning the consistency of the aioli when you mix it with a little hot pasta water.
Expert Tips
If you don’t have an immersion blender, use a mini food processor or blender to blend the aioli. Pulse to break down the ingredients, then set it to a low speed until it’s creamy and smooth. You may have to scrape the sides down a few times.
Season aioli to taste! Taste the aioli as you go and change the seasonings accordingly. You can add more salt, garlic, or lime juice to adjust it to your taste preferences.
To make it in advance:
- Spoon the aioli to a container and use the back of the spoon to flatten the top as much as possible.
- Drizzle lime juice over the whole top of the aioli and don’t stir it.
- Place a piece of plastic wrap on top of the surface of the aioli.
- Just before serving, remove the plastic and stir the aioli with a spoon.
FAQ
1. Can I make avocado aioli without a blender or food processor?
Yes, you can make avocado aioli without a food processor or blender! It takes a bit more effort, but you can still achieve a creamy consistency. First, mince the garlic and mash the avocado with a fork until it’s as smooth as possible. Mix all the ingredients together as best you can.
2. How do I prevent avocado aioli from turning brown?
Avocado will turn brown as it oxidizes when exposed to air, which makes it less appetizing in appearance but doesn’t make it unsafe to eat. And while we can’t totally prevent it from happening, we can minimize the browning! Drizzle a little extra lime juice over the entire top of the aioli and don’t stir it. Additionally, placing plastic wrap directly on the surface of the aioli before refrigerating can create a barrier and reduce browning. Just before serving, stir the entire container with a spoon.
3. How long will avocado aioli endure?
Avocado aioli will last for 3-4 days when stored covered in the refrigerator. However, for best taste and appearance, eat it as soon as possible, preferably immediately.
4. Is Avocado Aioli Whole30 compatible?
If you use a Whole30 compatible mayonnaise (typically made with avocado or olive oil), then this recipe is Whole30 compatible.
5. Can I freeze avocado aioli?
It is not recommended to freeze avocado aioli because it will separate when defrosted, giving it an odd and unappetizing consistency.
